A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is an advanced certificate of aviation proficiency issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India. It enables the holder to act as a pilot in command of an aircraft for hire or reward. The CPL program is a comprehensive training program which includes theoretical knowledge and practical flying skills.
The CPL program is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical training. The theoretical training consists of classroom instruction and self-study. The topics covered include aerodynamics and aircraft systems, airmanship and air navigation, air law and operations, meteorology and communication. Upon successful completion of the theoretical training, the student must pass an examination in order to obtain the CPL.

The practical training portion of the program is conducted in an aircraft. The student must demonstrate proficiency in various aircraft maneuvers, such as takeoff and landing, stalls, turns and emergency procedures. The student must also demonstrate knowledge of aircraft systems and navigation. Upon successful completion of the practical training, the student must pass an exam in order to obtain the CPL.

In order to maintain a CPL, the holder must complete a certain amount of continuing professional development (CPD). This includes both theoretical and practical training. Theoretical CPD is conducted in the form of lectures, seminars and exams. Practical CPD is conducted in the form of actual flying time. The amount of CPD required depends on the type of aircraft and its operation.
