A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is an advanced certificate of aviation proficiency issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India. It enables the holder to act as a pilot in command of an aircraft for hire or reward. The CPL program is a comprehensive training program which includes theoretical knowledge and practical flying skills.
The CPL program is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical training. The theoretical training consists of classroom instruction and self-study. The topics covered include aerodynamics and aircraft systems, airmanship and air navigation, air law and operations, meteorology and communication. Upon successful completion of the theoretical training, the student must pass an examination in order to obtain the CPL.


The practical training portion of the program is conducted in an aircraft. The student must demonstrate proficiency in various aircraft maneuvers, such as takeoff and landing, stalls, turns and emergency procedures. The student must also demonstrate knowledge of aircraft systems and navigation. Upon successful completion of the practical training, the student must pass an exam in order to obtain the CPL.


In order to maintain a CPL, the holder must complete a certain amount of continuing professional development (CPD). This includes both theoretical and practical training. Theoretical CPD is conducted in the form of lectures, seminars and exams. Practical CPD is conducted in the form of actual flying time. The amount of CPD required depends on the type of aircraft and its operation.

Commercial Pilot License Course is basically a 2 years license program in the aviation sector. In the following 2 years students go through with ground classes of 3-6 months and after that a flying training of 200 hrs in a DGCA approved flying clubs. In CPL program student learns how to fly an airplane. Commercial Pilot License Licence is issued by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), Govt of India. Pilots are the backbone of the aviation industry. Highly trained professionals who go through in-depth training for flying various kinds of aircraft are known as pilots.

From learning to operate various types of aircraft such as passenger aircraft, goods aircraft, and mail aircraft, pilots are also responsible for maintaining the internal mechanisms of aircraft. As a commercial pilot in India, you will be responsible for flying passengers and cargo on scheduled flights. Your duties will include pre-flight checks, planning the flight route and landing, and post-flight checks. You will need to have excellent communication and customer service skills as you will be working closely with air traffic control and other members of the cabin crew. There are many career opportunities available for commercial pilots in India, including working for an airline or charter company. With experience, you may also have the opportunity to become a flight instructor or test pilot.

 

Commercial Pilot License Eligibility

Commercial Pilots are those who are eligible to fly passengers from one place to another safely and efficiently for Commercial Airlines. The Eligibility requirements to become a Commercial Pilot in India are;

  • Your age should not be less than 17 years to begin training for CPL.

  • You must pass Class 12th standard with Mathematics, Physics and English.

  • If you are a non- science student, you may pursue the required subjects through the National Institute of Open Schooling.

  • You must have a valid DGCA Medical Certificate.

CPL Course Admission Process

To get admission to commercial pilot license course, the candidate has to follow the CPL Admission Process:-

  • To join CPL Course, a candidate should fill the form Pilot Scholarship Common Entrance Test (PILOT SCHOLARSHIP- CET).

  • After qualifying the PILOT SCHOLARSHIP CET Exam, students can get admission to top flying schools based upon their All India Rank (AIR) scored in PILOT SCHOLARSHIP CET.
